MAME, searching for playable games
No not for ROMS, I have lots, and I know where to find them.
But I'm looking for FUN games, anything you lot could recommend?
(especially games that got converted to the c64, so I could compare the two)
Question, certain games I download I put in the ROMS folder but MAME won't recognize them. WHat's wrong with them?
This happened with konami's Ping Pong & Mikie, and Led Storm for example.
My recommendation is (at the moment) Solomon's Key!

Yup, Mayhem, files still zipped. I think I have the last update (v071?)Still got the ROMs in the zip files right? What version of MAME you using? There are ROM changes along the way as MAME gets updated, maybe the naming convension has changed in time for them.
And the zipnames seem to be correct.
Weeeird? They just don't appear in the 'available' box, even after frequent refreshing.
I'll go and search for some replacements...
Thanx.

Fun games?
Try this one ( I had never heard of it before I played it ) Sky Kid Deluxe - a great FUN game. You could also try:
Paperboy
Bomber Man World
Danny Sullivan`s Indy Heat
Escape from the Plant of the Robot Monsters
Metro-Cross ( in a shitty fun sort of way - just for the cheesy music )
Mike ( still fun to play - bumming those girls off their chairs! )
Road Runner
Sunset Riders ( one of my faves )
Hyper Sports & Track & Field are both good fun to play

One quick thing whilst we are talking about MAME. I am using quite an old version ( 0.37 bt 9 ) I used some of the newer versions and the quality of the graphics just did not look, they looked more blocky and the colour`s were defo different. There were also some on screen glitches ( Outrun comes to mind ) that distracted from the game. Just wondering if these had been sorted in the later versions?
And...........I can`t find any samples for the speech in Salamander for the version I`m using and I have the downloaded samples for Yie Ar Kung-Fu, but they won`t work in the game. I have no problems with other samples that I have downloaded, only the Yie Ar Kung-Fu ones - they work independently when I select to play them in the zip folder - but not in the game! Any help would be appreciated

Ignore most of my last comments - I have downloaded some of the latest versions of MAME and the samples work a treat in Salamander and Yie Ar Kung-Fu and the glitches seem to have gone in Outrun and Enduro Racer....but, and it`s BIG but.....the graphics just don`t seem as crisp or sharp as the older versions I was running previously ( v39 beta 9 ) A lot of them are running in a full window, whilst before they had a border round most games ( thinking of Robocop here ) but the colour scheme looks different and the graphics even look a bit blurry. Might be my eyes as I`ve been watching a lot of porn recently - just wanted someone to confirm if this is the case and if there is anyway to rectify it? I`ve had a fiddle with the display tabs but to no avail - please help!

You should be viewing my website my lad, you'll get plenty of MAME recommendations there!
Well....you will when it's been running a bit longer....there are only two arcade reviews so far (with one more to go up very soon).
I would certainly recommend Star Force (reviewed!) as a fun and challenging shoot em up. Warhawk was based on it, but I like the arcade game better (no Rob Hubbard music though....).
I'm drawing a blank on others right now, which is weird coz I love MAME! I'll have to have a dig through and see which are my most played games.

It's just about the best emulator there is: if you've never experienced classic arcade games like Robotron, Asteroids, Scramble, Galaga, Galaxian, Defender, Nemesis, R-Type, Dig Dug, (list continues for about 3,000 others, which is probably an underestimate), then now's your chance.seanbags wrote:ummm..... If you're using Windows, try something like WinMAME (mame32), which is a bit easier to use than its DOS cousin, and doesn't need a front-end.
