trying to track down an article from a c64 mag
trying to track down an article from a c64 mag
Heyup,
I know this is a long shot but I would love to track down a magazine from my childhood. During the 80's I can remember buying a magazine with an article on how to create an adventure game using c64 basic prog language. It spanned several colour pages and went into detail on how to map your game out uisng a 12 by 12 grid, etc. How to read and store data, etc
I am working on an old style type adventure game using VB.net for my programming project and I wanted to read this article again as I can remember how excited I was when reading this all those years ago. it would also be cool to make reference to this when documenting my project.
For the life of me I cannot remember what the mag was called, even though I spent many hours inputing line after line of code from these magazines - ahhh good old days!
I thought I would post in the hope that someone with a huge mag collection can remember seeing this article. As my dad used to say, If you don't ask you don't get!
Cheers,
jono

I wrote an article called 'How to be a megastar', which covered how to get your game on the Zzap/Commodore Force covertape, but it wasn't solely about adventures (there was an adventure boxout from Bash the Barbarian), and it was more about gameplay than programming, and certainly wasn't a tutorial. I don't think it's what you're looking for, but I can't think of anything that better fits the bill either.

Sounds like Input to me, they did have a series of making an adventure game...peteroddan wrote: Could it have been Input ?

Mort hasn't scanned that yet, wonder if anybody has? Used to love it as a kid and a great way to learn how to program (even if most of it went over my head at the time!) Can you imagine something like that coming out now? No chance!
Input magazine!
Hi people,
Brilliant! it was input magazine and the memories are now flooding back!
I have just purchased 52 issues for £5!
This forum rocks - I would never have thought I would ever read that issue again. Sad I know, but I love the 80s. Somehow today's games/ computing is not the same. Maybe because I work in IT, or maybe because I am an adult - who knows!
I told my wife about my new found pocessions and naturally she does not understand my excitement! LOL! - similarly I do not understand her fascination with shoes and bags :O)
I also came across a good emulator for the speccy called Spectaculator - I was playing Highway Encounter last night - awesome!
Cheers,
Jono

Wow, that sounds like a good deal! Did you get them off eBay for that?macman wrote:Hi people,

Input has a special place in my heart (brain?) as well, since I guess it introduced me to programming in some way. I remember typing in a listing to get a dragon (I think) sprite displaying on the screen and it moving across... I could be getting mixed up with Adventure on the Atari 2600... it's all so vague these days!
Maybe we can convince Mort to start scanning the series of Input in..

Well I can get hold of the missing issue in Input as a m8 has a complete set, what I will try to do is make it a double with the home computing course or suchlike he he.
Cheers Mort
Ps getting hold of a 1541 III as it will save a lot of hassle and means I will have to mmc capable 64s in the house (already have a mmc 64)
Anyone here got a minimig yet LOL

What's the difference between it and the cartridge based MMC project? Apart from the fact that the 1541 III will work other other C= computers, not just the lovely C64.
