last month I came across a thread on YakYak about PG Tips (tea) and it was such an eye opener for me, since I never 'got' the PG Tips thing in Zzap. Here it is:

Now, please, don't tell me that it took me 18 years to find out that PG Tips in Zzap!64 was an in-joke, right!? Argh!
I just thought that Paul Glancey loved tea! What do I know?
That's the thing when reading foreign mags right?
You just don't get everything. And I thought I was a Zzap! specialist...tsk, tsk.
(bows head in shame and wanders off mumbling)
Did I most likely miss other stuff in the mag as well?
I mean in the sense that it would be difficult to 'get' for readers living abroad, and all that? Oh, I feel so stupid. But what can I do?
Please do tell...
Ta!
Once again I emerge from beneath a massive pile of paper which makes my desk groan to bring you the world’s most amazing posts.
I think most of the tips sections had titles that were play on words.
For example, Robin Hogg had his section called "Pig in a Poke". Of course you POKE on a C64, but "hog" is another English word for "pig". AND the phrase "pig in a poke" refers to not knowing what you are getting if you don't look at it closely (which would quite often happen with listings, they sometimes didn't work!).

On dictionary.refernce.com there's no results on PG Tips though, hehe.
Although there's a couple of nice suggestions. Interesting stuff actually if you're looking for a company or domain name...
No results found for pg tips.
Did you mean Peg top?
"Tips Oot For the Ladz". I guess this is Geordie spelling...
BTW, all the Geordie words written by Randy must be difficult for a non-Geordie Brit, so you can imagine what they are for non-native speaker. Is there a Geordie-English dictionary anywhere?
Well spotted. To be honest, I first thought generally that the phrase would be nice to use as it incorporated Pig and Poke and was a known phrase and then I quickly realised the true meaning, so it had to go in.
It kind of fitted as you've pointed out as some listings were highly likely to be messed up in the transcribing!
